I would like to invite you and your athlete to consider participating in the USA track and field (USATF) Junior Olympics.
This website outlines the steps required to sign up for a membership and compete in the Junior Olympics. http://www.usatf.org/groups/
Jonathan ran as an unattached member ( not affiliated with a club) last year and had a great time. There is a $20 annual fee to sign up as an individual. This allows you to race in the Track and Field Junior Olympic meets and the Cross Country Junior Olympic meets. Non-Junior Olympic meets do not require a USATF membership.
There are many Track and Field meets and Cross Country meets that do not require athletes to be a member of USATF to compete.
The Junior Olympic Track and Field and Cross country meets take place once a year. Track and Field Junior Olympics are in the summer and Cross Country meets are in the fall. Each meet averages a $10 entry fee per event or race.
The association meet is the first meet. If you qualify, the next meet is the regional meet. Finally, if you qualify, the national championship meet is the last meet.
If you are interested in signing your child up to compete in other meets, this website lists many running events in Illinois.
